This week I’m very happy to recommend a novel that had me hooked for three evenings straight when I read it. These novels that you remember not only for the story but for when and where you read them, I believe those are the ones that leave a mark. And with Sarah, you deserve to know (Original title: Sarah, mereixes saber-ho) Francescs’s latest novel that’s exactly what happened to me. I remember it was a time where even though I was tired, I couldn’t sleep unless I made progress on this novel, which fascinated me because it hooks you right from the start. It also made me see a different side of Francesc, one in totally opposite style of what he’d done until then and defending him as a thriller master. So, my reading time became one of the best moments of the day and this feeling lingers in.
I must confess that Francesc Soler is one of the agency’s authors that convices me with anything he does. He’s a professional and loves a challenge, such as playing with different literary genres, which is not something everyone can say. Right after the pandemic, he already surprised us with a satiric novel: Barcelona, tomorrow or this afternoon (Original title: Barcelona, demà o aquesta tarda), followed by a literary novel, which I would’ve said, until I read the new one, that it was my favorite: The dolphin’s smile (Original title: El somriure dels dofins), about the discovery of the world and one’s identity. However, I can’t say that anymore, because after reading Sarah, you deserve to know I can’t decide which one is my favorite. This last one is an addicting thriller, filled with unexpected turns and humor traits, telling the story of two women’s vengeance against violence against women, which will turn them into justice fugitives. The author makes a tribute to THELMA AND LOUISE, the great movie that this novel made me rewatch, and the Saras are wmen that know how to say enough is enough, maybe not in the most proper way, but there are moments in life when you have to stop those who abuse you, in any sphere you move in, and they don’t think twice:
Sara carries trauma and insecurities, she has a grey existence, her head abuses her and her mom is a constant reminder of her failures. One morning, on her way to work, she overhears a boy bragging about cheating on her girlfriend, Sarah, a rich and sophisticated American girl. In an attempt of doing something good, Sara posts a tweet directed at this stranger to let her know the infidelity, which ends up causing an earthquake of unimaginable consequences in their lives.
Even though at first Sara and Sarah seem like two completely different women, they will find out they share emotional wounds, but most importantly, the determination to survive at any cost and being happy. They will create an unbreakable bond and embark on a journey towards salvation, turning them into criminals or heroines. Or perhaps both at the same time.
I believe you can’t miss this novel. Those of you who are familiar with Francesc, will become even bigger fans and those of you who haven’t read him yet, will discover a voice that won’t leave you indifferent.
