Last week marked the presentation of The Door with the Three Locks The Origin (Original Title: La Puerta de los Tres Cerrojos el Origen) by Sonia Fernández-Vidal, and I assure you it was very special, because when we first published The Door with the Three Locks (Original title: La puerta de los tres cerrojos), in March 2011, we knew we were pioneering a genre that didn’t yet exist. This does happen often, thanks to the intuition of Francesc Miralles, a talent scout with the gift for viewing life through a book lens. He saw that Sonia Fernández-Vidal was the perfect author to publish the first adventure novel that, through its characters, would introduce quantum physics to young readers—and, I would add, to adults like me, who understand little about this world. It was magical and turned into a spectacular success.
I must say that, even though it was translated into several languages (15) and published internationally, many publishers were unprepared for a new genre, especially one that didn’t come from the USA. Despite this, we achieved a spectacular success in the Spanish language. This trilogy is a long seller with almost 500.000 copies sold. It has performed very well, considering that the author is Spanish and not American. This is why we believe that now is the perfect time for the prequel and that we’ll once again have a huge sales success in Spanish as well as convincing international publishers that this series is exceptional, because it truly is.
In The Origin of The Door with Three Locks 1: The Seed of a Revolution (Original title: El Origen de La Puerta de los Tres cerrojos 1: La Semilla de una revolución) , Sonia takes us to the early 20th century, where Ada fights the grey and boring future that life in the orphanage has prepared for her. When her former mentor disappears, she finds herself submerged in an adventure that will take her to strange knowledge filled lands. With the help of an enigmatic elf, she’ll escape, getting back not only her freedom but also, opening the doors to her dream: becoming a great scientist. Ada and her new friend have the mission of guiding the brightest scientists of their time towards the quantum world. Quantum physics must be born in the classical world. And although her dreams are not free from danger, Ada will do whatever it takes to uncover the secrets of what will become the greatest scientific revolution in history.
It is a series filled with adventures and fantasy that explains the mysteries of the universe and quantum physics with astonishing simplicity. It is perfect for a crossover audience interested in adventure, mystery and science outreach, an ideal combination for attracting young readers, as we’ve already seen that adventure and science spark an immense curiosity that keeps them hooked. Additionally, Sonia Fernández Vidal, is a prestigious science communicator and was chosen as one of the 100 most creative people in the world by the Forbes magazine, which is an added value, as are the wonderful black-and-white illustrations by David G. Forés.
