Today I celebrate with great joy, one of the most special days of the year: Sant Jordi. Since I was a child, this day had always been important in the family, even before we knew the publishing world would be a part of our daily lives. I grew up surrounded by books because my dad is one of the best readers I’ve ever known, and many of you already know that it was him who passed on the passion for books to us. Now, as a literary agent, experiencing Sant Jordi makes even more sense, because living it from within is magic. Stories come to life in the streets, where authors, readers and professionals from the industry come together and share a joy, such a special sense of hope that is difficult to put into words.
Thos of us from the industry are united by an invisible string – our love for literature, but also our will to make sure every author has the best day they could wish for. The First timers for it being the first time, to the ones who carry a few Sant Jordis, for another one. It really is a sensational day, and the industry knows how to radiate that passion from within, because people go outside with a smile and seeking what we love most: Books. We fight them every day, and hope they get to as many people as possible, because reading is living. It’s a way of experiencing multiple lives, of feeling intense emotions and understanding the world from different perspectives. Reading doesn’t just entertain it transforms. It strengthens our minds and emotional health.
I feel grateful to be able to celebrate it once again. To accompany our authors and to live up close every reader’s excitement. It is one of the best rewards of my profession. So, all that’s left is to wish you all a happy Sant Jordi, gift books and roses to those who you love. A day like this only happens once a year, and we like it this way, but books and roses can be with us every day, if we want them to. So, let’s celebrate big today, but let them be with us always. We’ll be better, we’ll be happier.
